SETTING COURSE FOR THE FUTURE OF SPORT IN BRUSSELS

Brussels, 15 April 2024 – As an event bringing together the world's best padel players takes place this 20 April at Tour & Taxis, the Centre Sportif Mounier, a pillar of the Brussels sporting landscape in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, announces the launch, on 10 June, of works designed to transform Mounier into a benchmark venue for padel and bouldering. This expansion marks a new era for the Centre Sportif Mounier, which intends to remain at the forefront of emerging sporting trends and to offer an inclusive environment where everyone can find their passion.

A complete offering

The Mounier Padel Club, currently limited to 3 courts, will be extended to 7 courts with the construction of a new building. "Padel is not simply a passing fad, it is a sport that brings people together. Thanks to the expansion, the club will be able to offer a variety of activities, from lessons to social and corporate events. Our goal is to provide a complete and enriching experience for all our members and visitors," says Olivier Wouters, director of the Centre Sportif Mounier.

For its part, the bouldering area, added to the existing hall across two 500 m² levels, will be redesigned to offer a comprehensive and varied experience for climbing enthusiasts. "We will create an environment conducive to climbers' development, with modern facilities and stimulating routes suited to all levels," explains Olivier Wouters.

This investment of 4 million euros will be entirely self-financed by the ASBL co-owned by UCLouvain, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and the Cocof.

Growing demand

The ever-growing interest in padel and bouldering in Europe motivates this significant expansion. These sports attract a broad public of all ages, seeking accessible, sociable and stimulating sporting activities. "We are seeing sustained and growing demand for padel and climbing among our members and the Brussels sporting community. To meet this demand and offer state-of-the-art facilities, we have decided to expand our infrastructure and invest in emerging disciplines," emphasises the director of Mounier.

The Centre will remain accessible

The works, carried out by Interconstruct and supervised by LPP Architecture, will be conducted while keeping the centre fully accessible during this period of expansion.
